Molecular Salt: Entecavir

X-Vir 0.5 mg (Entecavir) is an anti-Hepatitis B (HBV) infection drug indicated in adults.  It is also used in HIV patients co-infected with HBV who never took other highly-active anti-retroviral medicines. X-Vir 0.5 mg (Entecavir) is recognized for its ability to improve the worsening condition of the liver by inhibiting the viral duplication and reducing their load. However, it is not used for complete cure of HBV infection.

X-Vir 0.5 mg (Entecavir) is taken via the oral route of administration in treatment-naïve (Patients who haven’t taken other anti-viral medicines) adult patients with compensated liver disease (Liver disease with a functional system) and ≥16 years of age. It is administered once daily on an empty stomach at least 2 hours after a meal and 2 hours before the next meal.

Warnings associated with X-Vir 0.5 mg (Entecavir):

Before starting X-Vir 0.5 mg (Entecavir), patients should be checked if are suffering from,

• •  Kidney disease

• •  HIV co-infected with HBV (Carry out HIV-antibody testing regularly)

• •  Severe acute exacerbations associated with HBV infection (Found in patients who discontinue the drug in the midway of prescribed regimen)

• •  Pregnancy-related issues (X-Vir 0.5 mg (Entecavir) might affect the fetus)

• •  Other medical conditions

General warnings:

• •  X-Vir 0.5 mg (Entecavir) should be consumed as prescribed without changing or stopping the dose

• •  If a particular dose is missed, take it as you remember by following the given regimen

• •  If it is time for the next dose, skip the last one

• •  X-Vir 0.5 mg (Entecavir) does not necessarily decrease the chances of HBV transmission through sexual contact or blood contamination

Side-effects associated with X-Vir 0.5 mg (Entecavir):

• •  Dizziness

Serious side-effects:

There are certain severe side-effects associated with X-Vir 0.5 mg (Entecavir) including lactic acidosis, enlarged liver (hepatomegaly), or excessive amounts of fat in the liver (steatosis). If patients are seen with the below-mentioned symptoms, they should be immediately rushed to the hospital.

Dark coloured urine

Abnormal pain in the muscles

Pain in the lower part of the stomach

Chills on hands and legs

Light coloured stools

Stomach pain with nausea and vomiting

Nausea with stomach problems

Dizziness

Loss of appetite

Irregular heartbeats and shortness of breath (Dyspnea)

White part of eyes turning yellow (Jaundice)

Other uncommon side-effects:

• Immune system disorders like shock or a sudden drop in BP (Anaphylactoid reaction)

• Nutrition and metabolism-related disorders like unnecessary lactic acid in the blood (lactic acidosis)

• Disorders occurring in the liver and biliary regions

• Skin disorders including rashes or loss of hair (Alopecia)
